Our history

Our history

From 1929 until today

Our history dates all the way back to 1929, and ever since then, our factory and main base have been located in the small Sunnmøre village of Ørsta. Initially established as Møre Kurvmøbelfabrikk, the company changed its name to Møre Lenestolfabrikk AS in 1931. In 1975, the name changed to Møremøbler AS, and since 1997, we have been known under the company name Fora Form.

Wherever people meet

The vision and business idea have always been the same: "To create furniture with good design for places where people meet." Our history helps define who we are and where we are going. Since transitioning from wicker furniture to armchairs, we have supplied products to public spaces and workplaces, and this remains our most significant target market to this day.

From wicker furniture to public spaces:

Møre lenestol
February 1st 1929
Jens E. Ekornes and Petter P. Langlo established Møre Kurvmøbelfabrikk AS. The company changed its name to Møre Lenestolfabrikk AS in 1931, and in 1932, the new building was completed by the waterfront in Ørsta.
Produksjon
1929 - 1935
The company started with armchairs, leading to a name change to Møre Lenestolfabrikk AS. In 1934, production began on various versions of wicker furniture.
Oxford serien
1930 - 1940
With the new direction and production, the Oxford series was introduced. Chairs from this series, in particular, were highly popular and remained in production for a remarkable 15 years.
Triangel
1950s
As societal changes occur, furniture production evolves accordingly. New forms emerge, and old forms begin to transform. This is evident in the Triangel series from 1952.
Lamineringsteknikk
1954 - A paradigm shift
With assistance from Øivind Iversen, who had studied furniture production in the USA, a new laminating technology opened up new possibilities. Møre Lenestolfabrikk was the first to adopt this technology.
Quantum range
Quantum range
With the new laminating technique, we were able to produce the City chair. This marked the beginning of an entire collection named the Quantum Range.
Planet
1965 - Pop-art
New artistic movements take shape, which also influence furniture production. The Planet chair, designed by Sven Ivar Dysthe, was Norway's first Pop-art furniture piece!
Lami serien
1967 - The chair that put us on the map
In 1967, the Laminette was launched. This chair put Møre Lenestolfabrikk on the map and sold nearly 1 million units. In the years that followed, several more products were added to the "Lami series".
Oppkjøp
1970s - Expansion
Møre Lenestolfabrikk gets new owners, Olav Nerbøvik and Inge Langlo. Together, they also acquire Møremøbler Stranda, Møre Manilla, and Møremøbler Kalvatn.
Navnebytte
1975 - Møremøbler AS
After acquisitions and expansion, the company changes its name from Møre Lenestolfabrikk AS to Møremøbler AS.
Spring
1984 - Spring
In 1984, Spring, designed by Terje Hope, is launched. Spring has in many ways become a Norwegian icon and a well-known piece of furniture in the industry.
Auditorie
1985 - Auditoriums
After a fire and the subsequent reconstruction of the National Theatre in Oslo, Møremøbler begins producing auditorium seating. This marked a new segment for the company.
Totem
1986 - Totem
In a post-modernist spirit, Totem, designed by Torstein Nilsen, emerged. The chair represented, in many ways, a new artistic form of furniture.
Jazz
1993 - Jazz
Dave Vikøren and Steinar Hindenes' Jazz Collection consisted of the Jazz Pepper table, the Jazz Dizzy clothes hanger, the Jazz Monk chair, and the Jazz Young stool. The series received the "Merket for god design" (Award for Design Excellence) in 1993 and the Classic Award in 2005.
Fora Form
1997 - We become Fora Form
In 1997, the company changed its name from Møremøbler AS to Fora Form AS. The new name aimed to be more explanatory and internationally oriented. "We create FORA through FORM."
Lammhults Design Group
2013 - Acquisition
After being owned by Stokke and Vatne Møbler from 1992 to 2007, the company was sold to Credo Partners in 2007. In 2013, we were once again acquired by Lammhults Design Group.
Senso
2014 - The Senso system
In 2014, we launched Senso, designed by Anderssen & Voll. The sofa system quickly became a category leader in its segment and one of our best-selling products of all time. In 2024, Senso won the German Design Award for Senso frame.
Fjell
2017 - Fjell
Lars Tornøe designs the Fjell chair, which is launched in 2017. The chair quickly becomes a leader in its segment and, along with Senso, is one of our best-selling products of all time.
Ny logo
2019 - New profile
In 2019, the company celebrates its 90th anniversary by unveiling a new visual identity, a new logo, and a strengthened brand.
BUSINESS IDEA:
"To create furniture with good design for places where people meet"

Strategic use of designers

Fora Form has delivered products to workplaces and public environments for over 90 years. This has been achieved through the strategic use of designers and the unique qualities inherent in designers' problem-solving skills. There is little doubt that this decision has been one of the most essential reasons why Fora Form celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2019.

Products with a function

Each product in our collection has its own story to tell. Every item has solved a function in its time, adapting to the interaction between people, society, or the environment of that era. As you can see in the carousel above, society, art, and culture have also influenced how Fora Form has approached furniture production for nearly 100 years.
