City is one of Norway’s most iconic design classics and is considered one of the most influential pieces in Norwegian design history. The chair was first launched in 1954 and is now produced with shells in both veneer and plastic, as well as fully upholstered cover versions. City is equally suited to exclusive, formal settings as it is to restaurants and canteens. With its soft, organic shapes, this chair is just as relevant today as it was in 1954.

Øivind Iversen designed the City chair in 1954 after a study trip to the United States, where he learned the then-groundbreaking lamination technique. According to the story, the design was inspired by a curvaceous woman Iversen encountered during the trip, and it is precisely these soft, organic shapes that define City.
Although City was one of the few products Øivind Iversen ever brought into production, it may be the most important product in Fora Form’s history. When Iversen returned with knowledge of the new lamination technique, it also opened up more efficient production methods at the factory. For this reason, City holds a truly unique place in Fora Form’s design legacy.
